6. General Information

FAQ 6.1 Where will students live during the duration of the program?
Students are responsible for arranging their own accommodations for the duration of the program.
During the orientation period (first year) they need to complete at least two lab rotations with different fellows of the Max Planck School of Cognition. As we have fellows in multiple cities, we will assist in finding appropriate accommodation in dormitories near the chosen labs during the orientation year.

In the beginning of the second year, doctoral candidates have identified the lab where they develop their PhD research work and are expected to arrange their longer-term accommodation accordingly.

During the cognition academies (i.e., classroom weeks) the school will organize central accommodation for the students to create a feeling of community.

FAQ 6.2 Is there childcare at the Max Planck School of Cognition?
The school can directly support young families with children by assisting with finding/securing childcare facilities. In addition, doctoral candidates (female or male) will have the right to maternity leave and other benefits based on German employment law and the duration of their contracts will be adjusted accordingly (i.e. lengthened based on how much leave was taken). The school will particularly encourage and support women in their careers.
